Trim to Playhead

A command to trim a clip to the playhead position.

What is trim to playhead in ScreenFlow?

Trim to Playhead in ScreenFlow is a video editing feature that allows users to cut or trim their video or audio clips at the exact point where the playhead is positioned. The playhead is the marker or indicator that shows where you are in the timeline of your video or audio clip.

When you select the "Trim to Playhead" option, ScreenFlow will remove all the content of the clip that is either to the right or left of the playhead, depending on your choice. This feature is particularly useful when you want to precisely cut out certain parts of your video or audio, making your editing process more efficient and accurate.

How do I trim to playhead in ScreenFlow?

In ScreenFlow, trimming to the playhead can be done in a few simple steps. First, position the playhead at the point where you want to trim your clip. This can be done by clicking on the desired point in the timeline or by using the left and right arrow keys to move frame by frame.

Once the playhead is in position, select the clip you want to trim. You can do this by clicking on it in the timeline. After selecting the clip, go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and select "Split Clip at Playhead" or use the shortcut Command + Shift + T. This will split the clip into two parts at the playhead's position. Now, you can delete the part of the clip you don't need by clicking on it and pressing the delete key. This effectively trims your clip to the playhead.

What does trim to playhead mean in ScreenFlow?

Trim to Playhead in ScreenFlow is a video editing function that allows you to cut or shorten your video or audio clips. The playhead is the vertical line that indicates your current position in the timeline while editing. When you choose to trim to the playhead, you are essentially choosing to cut the clip at the exact point where the playhead is positioned.

For instance, if you want to remove the beginning part of a clip, you would move the playhead to the point where you want the clip to start and then select 'Trim to Playhead'. This will remove the portion of the clip that is before the playhead. Similarly, if you want to cut off the end of a clip, you would position the playhead where you want the clip to end and then trim. This feature helps in precise editing and in removing unwanted portions of your clips.

Why can't I trim to playhead in ScreenFlow?

ScreenFlow does not have a specific "trim to playhead" feature like some other video editing software. This means you cannot directly cut or trim your video at the exact point where the playhead is located with a single command or button. Instead, you have to manually split the clip at the playhead's position and then delete the unwanted portion.

To do this, you can place the playhead at the point where you want to trim, then use the 'T' shortcut to split the clip. After splitting, select the portion of the clip you want to remove and hit 'delete'. This effectively trims the clip to the playhead's position. It might be a bit more time-consuming than a single "trim to playhead" command, but it achieves the same result.
