Spacing

The distance between elements in a design.

What is spacing in Canva?

Spacing in Canva refers to the distance or interval between elements in a design. This can include the space between lines of text, between letters, or between different elements such as images, shapes, and text boxes. Proper spacing is crucial in design as it helps to create a balanced and harmonious layout, making the content easier to read and understand.

In Canva, users can adjust the spacing of their design elements through the toolbar at the top of the page. For text, there are specific options to adjust the letter spacing (the space between individual letters) and line height (the space between lines of text). For other elements, users can manually move and resize them to achieve the desired spacing. Canva also provides guides and grids to help users align and space their elements accurately.

How to adjust spacing in Canva?

Adjusting spacing in Canva is a straightforward process. To adjust the spacing between letters, select the text box that contains the text you want to adjust. Then, on the top of the screen, you will see a toolbar. Look for the 'Spacing' option in this toolbar. Click on it, and you will see two options: 'Letter Spacing' and 'Line Height'. You can adjust the letter spacing by moving the slider left or right.

To adjust the spacing between lines, the process is similar. Select the text box, click on the 'Spacing' option in the toolbar, and then select 'Line Height'. Again, you can adjust the line height by moving the slider left or right. Remember to click outside the text box or hit 'Enter' on your keyboard to apply the changes.

How to change letter spacing in Canva?

To change the letter spacing in Canva, first, you need to select the text box that contains the text you want to adjust. Once you've selected the text box, you'll see a toolbar at the top of the screen. Look for the 'Spacing' option in this toolbar. Click on it to reveal the options for letter spacing and line height.

Under the 'Spacing' option, you'll see two sliders. The one on the left adjusts the letter spacing, which is the space between individual letters. Click and drag this slider to the left to decrease the letter spacing, or to the right to increase it. The changes will be applied immediately, so you can see the effect on your text as you adjust the slider. Once you're satisfied with the spacing, simply click anywhere outside the 'Spacing' box to close it.

How to set line spacing in Canva?

To set line spacing in Canva, you first need to select the text box that contains the text you want to adjust. Once you've selected the text box, you'll see a toolbar at the top of the screen. Look for the line spacing icon, which looks like two horizontal lines with arrows pointing up and down.

Click on the line spacing icon to open the line spacing options. You can either choose from the preset options or manually adjust the line spacing by clicking on the plus or minus buttons. Once you're satisfied with the line spacing, click outside the text box to apply the changes. Remember, you can always adjust the line spacing again if needed.
